No more dark silver patches. Composite resin fillings match your natural tooth shade exactly — so no one will ever know you had a filling done. Completed in a single appointment.
Our composite resin system comes in 16+ shades. We select and layer shades to achieve a result that is virtually indistinguishable from your surrounding teeth.
What Are Composite Fillings?
Tooth-coloured fillings use composite resin — a durable, aesthetic material — to restore decayed, chipped, or damaged teeth.
A dental filling is required when a tooth has a cavity (decay), a minor fracture, or worn enamel. Traditionally, silver amalgam was used — functional, but highly visible and containing mercury. Composite resin fillings have replaced amalgam as the preferred material in modern dentistry.
Composite resin is a tooth-coloured mixture of glass particles and plastic resin. It's applied in layers, sculpted to match the tooth's natural shape, and hardened with a special LED curing light — all in a single appointment. The result is a filling that is virtually invisible, even on front teeth.
At ADS Dental Hospitals in Hyderabad, we have phased out amalgam entirely. All fillings placed at our Ameerpet and Gachibowli clinics use high-quality composite resin materials for optimal aesthetics, durability, and biocompatibility.
💡 Replacing old silver fillings? Many patients choose to replace visible amalgam fillings with composite for aesthetic reasons. We can assess whether your existing fillings are due for replacement at your next visit.

What We Can Fix
Composite resin is remarkably versatile — beyond just cavities, it's used for a wide range of cosmetic and restorative repairs.
The most common use. Decay is removed and the cavity is filled with shade-matched composite, restoring full tooth function and appearance.
Minor chips on front or back teeth can be repaired with composite bonding — often in a single appointment, with no injections required for small chips.
Composite can build up a short, worn, or oddly shaped tooth to improve symmetry and aesthetics without crowns or veneers.
Minor gaps (diastemas) between front teeth can be reduced by adding composite to the sides of adjacent teeth — a cost-effective alternative to orthodontics for small spaces.
Patients choose to replace visible amalgam fillings with composite for aesthetic and health reasons. Old fillings are carefully removed and replaced with tooth-coloured composite.
When gum recession exposes root surfaces, composite can protect the sensitive area and reduce discomfort from hot and cold stimuli.
The Procedure
A straightforward, comfortable appointment — typically 30–60 minutes from start to finish.
We assess the extent of decay or damage with a clinical examination and, where needed, an X-ray to see if decay has reached the pulp.
Before any anaesthesia, we select the composite shade that best matches your natural tooth — shade guides are compared against your teeth in natural light.
Local anaesthesia is applied for deeper cavities. Small chips or minor surface work may not require any injection at all.
Decayed or damaged tooth material is removed. The area is cleaned and a bonding agent is applied to help the composite adhere to the tooth.
Composite resin is applied in thin layers, each cured (hardened) with an LED light for a few seconds. Layers build up the tooth's natural shape and contour.
The filling is polished to a smooth, natural finish and your bite is checked. Any adjustments are made immediately. You leave with a completed, comfortable filling.
Sensitivity after filling? Mild sensitivity to temperature is normal for 1–2 weeks as the tooth settles. If it worsens or persists longer, contact us — it may indicate the filling needs minor adjustment or the pulp needs attention.

FAQs
For front teeth and small-to-medium back tooth cavities, yes. For very large back tooth restorations subject to heavy bite forces, ceramic inlays or crowns may be more durable long-term.
Composite can pick up some staining from tea, coffee, red wine, or turmeric over time. This is surface staining that can be polished off at routine clean-up appointments.
Yes — it's a routine procedure. Old amalgam is carefully removed under water irrigation and suction. We take precautions to minimise any mercury vapour exposure during removal.
Climate has no meaningful effect on composite filling lifespan. With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, composite fillings typically last 7–10 years on front teeth and 5–7 years on back teeth.
For most cavities, local anaesthesia is used and the procedure is painless. Very small chips or surface repairs can often be done with no injection at all.
We advise waiting 1 hour before eating to allow the composite to fully set. Avoid very hot, cold, or hard foods on the first day. Normal eating resumes fully after 24 hours.
Composite fillings are slightly more expensive than amalgam — ₹1,500–₹6,000 vs ₹500–₹2,000 for amalgam. However, the aesthetic result, mercury-free composition, and less drilling required make composite the preferred and recommended choice.
Absolutely — composite is the preferred choice for children because it's mercury-free. Even milk (baby) teeth that are badly decayed are better restored with composite than extracted prematurely, preserving space for the permanent tooth.
